The short answer
A failure appearing after an update suggests a possible link, not proof. First establish whether the same printer, queue, connection and document still fail under controlled tests.
Where this applies
Windows 11 and macOS computer-side changes; printer firmware changes require the printer manufacturer's recovery guidance. A new OS release may also change permissions or installed print support.
Identify the right device and prepare
Record the update name and time, exact model, previous and current package if known, connection type, queue names and last successful output. Keep official installer or support details ready before altering the working system.
Work through the checks in order
If one computer stopped printing immediately after a system update but the printer's internal test and another computer both work, focus on the affected computer's queue or supported package rather than replacing consumables.
- Check whether the printer itself can produce an internal status page and whether other authorized computers can print to it.
- Verify the selected queue and connection; updates can coincide with a duplicate queue or changed default destination.
- Try a one-page plain-text job and compare its result with the document that first failed. Note the job's exact queue status.
- Consult the manufacturer and OS guidance for your specific package; if a supported rollback or previous package is available, use its official procedure and retest.
Expected result and next branch
You can identify whether the failure is device-wide, connection-specific, queue-specific or document-specific and select an appropriate official recovery action.
If a firmware update was interrupted or the printer cannot reach ready state, stop computer-side reinstall attempts and contact model-specific support. If a previous driver is unavailable, avoid unofficial archives.
Safety and limits
Do not disable driver-signature enforcement, security controls or automatic system protection to force an old package. Managed computers require IT approval for recovery.
